The Righteous King

What an amazing sight it must have been when Jesus fulfilled this glorious prophecy that day, as He rode through the streets of Jerusalem, sitting upon a donkey - even on a colt, the foal of an ass. He rode along as prophesied to the loud acclaim and happy songs of the jubilant multitude.. who recognised that this must be their promised Messiah - Who was spoken of by the prophets of old. And here we find the Lord Jesus finally fulfilling these words of Zechariah the prophet. What an amazing sight that must have been!

What a breathtaking and exhilarating experience it must have been to be swept along by that happy, joyful crowd.. who excitedly ran before Him as He rode along the streets of the City.. and who chased after Him in animated anticipation shouting:

Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest.

What an a exhilarating experience to have been part of that multitude!

Save us, Son of David, was their cry, and in their excitement and joy they thronged His path, taking off their outer garments and laying them in is path. They filled their arms with branches of palms to strew in His way - while happily announcing: This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee. Save us, Son of David was their cry.. as He steadfastly rode towards His death on the cross - for their sake and for ours.

Jesus was indeed the Son of David.. as His genealogies in both Matthew and Luke authenticate. Jesus was indeed the Messiah of Israel Who had been sent to save His people from their sins. Jesus was indeed the incarnate Son of God - appointed before the foundation of the world to become God's sacrificial Saviour and Israel's Passover Lamb  - slain from the foundation of the world for the sins of all. And Jesus was indeed carrying out the words of this Old Testament prophets to the very letter. How true were those prophetic words from the old sage, Zechariah, who wrote: behold, your King is coming to you. He is just and endowed with salvation.

We who have been saved by grace through faith.. rejoice greatly for the forgiveness of sin.. and the redemption of our spirit, soul and body, which was secured for us on Calvary's cross.. and confirmed for us through Gethsemane's empty tomb. And the day is coming when the men of Israel and daughters of Zion will rejoice once again.. when they see their Messiah coming in the clouds with great power and glory. Rejoice O men of Israel and be glad O daughters of Zion - for the day is fast approaching when you will cry: LOOK! Behold! He comes with the clouds of heaven, and every eye will see Him-even those who pierced Him. But first He must come in the clouds to take His Body (which is the Church), to our heavenly home. Even so come Lord Jesus.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, my wonderful Saviour. Thank You that He was prepared before the foundation of the world to be slain for my sins and for the sins the whole world. Thank You that Your Word of truth wrote history in advance, so that we would know that Jesus is the Son of God, Who takes away the sin of the world.. and thank You that one day the nation of Israel will once again shout our in tearful praise and joyful thanks: blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! AMEN.

GOD BLESS YOU.
