Neilah: The Closing of The Gates

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement—an observation established in the book of Leviticus!

In Judaism—perhaps the holiest and most important holiday!

  • A day for Israelites to atone for their sinsl

  • A day devoted to spiritual repentance.

  • A commitment to begin a new year with a clear conscience.

  • A time of fasting and prayer in an introspection expected on this Day of Atonement.

And the Neilah service, or “closing of the gates”, featuring repeating the Shemah from Deuteronomy 6:4:

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the Lord is One. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.“

The service and the day ending with a single blast of the shofar and the proclamation “next year in Jerusalem”—followed by a celebration feast—a festival of joy for a year of life, health and happiness!

GOD BLESS YOU.
