A Prayer for My Betrayal

71 And when (Peter) went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 And again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.” Matthew 26: 71-72 RSV

PRAYER: Oh Lord, forgive me for betraying you. I awaken and feel forgotten and unloved. Yet I know you have not forgotten me, for I see what you do for me every day in the heavens you created, hear it in the wind, and feel it in my fingers as I go about my work. I know that you love me for you gave your only son to redeem me from sin. That I can rise at all is proof of your faithfulness, for without you I would be nothing but dust. I betray you when I feel unworthy, for I know you have made me whole. You watch over me, guide me, protect me, and provide for me.

Forgive me, Lord, for ever entertaining doubts about how you hold me in your loving hands every single second of every single day. Those doubts are the devil’s words whispered in my dreams to make me weak. Give me the strength and courage, my Lord, to rise every morning and say, “Get thee behind me Satan!” In your holy name I pray, Amen!
